This is Halloween

Decorating for the holidays is much more fun with kids.  Sam was bursting with excitement and bossiness this year.  We made monsters for our windows, which he was really happy about until he saw that I gave the monster three eyes.  After the meltdown he was able to communicate to me that he really wanted the monster to have only one eye... so we made two monsters with one eye each.  Next, Sam requested ghosts for our front porch.  Halloween decorating has never been more fun... or exhausting ;)

For those of you who are interested, this monster is named Jason.

Sam likes keeping the blinds shut.  Everytime we enter the living room he screams, "Ahhhhh Monsters!!"

The Halloween village that I saved from the dumpster.

I replaced all of our square framed photos with pictures from Edward Gorey's The Gashlycrumb Tinies: A Very Gorey Alphabet Book.  You'll like it if you have a twisted sense of humor.

Our monsters cast spooky shadows everywhere.

If you're in the hood, come trick-or-treat at our place... unless you're too scared Brewhahahahahahahah!!!!!

chunky monkey; behemoth baby

We had a checkup with Dr. Nelson on Thursday for Lars.  His kidney function is still perfectly intact.  His electrolytes looked totally normal, and his growth charts were stellar.  He was 14 pounds 3 oz at 9 weeks of age, putting him at about the 90-95% for weight.  Sam was only 14 pounds at 12 months, so we're pretty happy with this level of chubbiness.  Lars's length was just over 24 inches, also in the 90% percentile.  He definitely likes to eat, and we hope he keeps it up indefinitely.  He's tolerating the full dose of cystagon now, at 100 mg every 6 hours.  He sleeps through the night for the most part, too, except for when we have to give him his meds at 3:00 a.m.

We figured out where Lars gets his infantile behavior from.

Sam LOVES LOVES LOVES his baby brother.

We Saw Some Moosen!

Family hike to Twin Lakes 2012.   They call it Twin Lakes.  Pshhh.  There's only one lake and it's really a dam.  Still cool though.

The hike was about 1.5 miles up and Sam wouldn't let us take resting breaks.  He kept saying he'd drink water as soon as we got to the top.  He's pretty determined. I could have used a break.

beauty.

We were the only people at the top.  We didn't stay long.  Before we had children we would have loved the solitude but now I get a little nervous to be so far away from humans.  What if I saw a cougar or a bear?!  I can't run very fast with a baby strapped to my chest.  It was sort of creepy.  Maybe that's Halloween kicking in.

We saw a mom, dad, and a baby moose.  The mom was only five feet from the trail.  Stephen (who has been chased by a moose before) took this picture.  I wanted to live so I grabbed Sam and booked it down the path.
